LOOMIS - It has become a tradition in Loomis that every season Del Oro competes for a league, section, norcal and state bowl title. But it is another tradition that makes the school and community just as proud, and that is their connection to the military.

For several years, the Golden Eagles have opened their season with a football showcase in honor of the military. This season the "Honor Bowl" has taken the place of the "Battle for Veterans" but the message is still the same.

"My dad was a Vietnam vet and my grandfather was at Pearl Harbor on the West Virginia and it is very important to me," Del Oro Head Coach Casey Taylor told News10. "For past soldiers, present soldiers, and future soldiers it is some of those freedoms we take for granted and it is a great two weeks for us to really show our kids that doing great things off the field."

The Honor Bowl will open on Friday night in Loomis with Elk Grove hosting Damonte Ranch (Reno, NV) at 5:00 p.m. and Del Oro hosting Kamehameha (Hawaii) at 8:00 p.m. The showcase continues with three more game on Saturday. Reed (Nevada) vs. Clovis North of Fresno at 2:00 p.m., Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa, CA vs. Churchill County (Nevada) at 5:00 p.m., and Clayton Valley (Concord, CA) vs. Carson (Nevada) at 8:00 p.m.

The Golden Eagles will continue the "Honor Bowl" by playing in Southern California showcase facing Helix High School (San Diego, CA).
