HOUSTON – Two Houston mothers face charges after allegedly leaving their children in hot cars.
HPD officers were surprised when they spotted a toddler walking along East 20th Street in the Heights on Aug. 29.
The officers scooped up the 18-month-old and began searching the neighborhood. They noticed a car in the CVS parking lot with its back door open.
Police say Maria Elena Soto-Molina left her baby in the car while she went into the drug store. The toddler managed to open the car door and climb out.
Police also said the mother didn't have a car seat for her child.
Soto-Molina is charged with endangering a child.
Yesenia Duran, 31, was arrested outside a Walmart over the weekend after her three children, ages 2, 4 and 9, were spotted inside a car.
Harris County Sheriff's deputies were called to the store at 10411 North Freeway. Witnesses said the kids had been in the car at least 30 minutes while Duran was shopping in Walmart.
Duran is charged with child abandonment.
