The city of Stockton and event directors have decided the last annual Stockton Asparagus Festival has been held.

The decision to cancel the festival was based on a number of circumstances and conditions that prevent fulfillment of one of the primary missions of the event: giving proceeds to more than 100 local non-profits, according to festival board director Douglass W. Wilhoit Jr.

The 2014 festival was the 29th. Heavy rain and lightning forced the three-day event to end early on the first day.

The event relied substantially on volunteers to man booths and more.
