The Yuba County district attorney will try three teenagers as adults in an alleged kidnapping plot that was foiled when the victim was able to call for help.
The 16 and 17 year olds, identified as Jessy Murray, Frank Oddo and Jacob Cadena, arranged to meet the Marysville victim on a rural road under the pretense of buying marijuana, Yuba County investigators said. However, investigators later learned the suspects intended to take the victim's phone, pretend to be him and then to break up with his girlfriend -- all in an effort for one of them to move in and date the girl.
The meeting between the trio and the victim took place on Spring Valley Road last Saturday. According to investigators, the suspects wore bandannas covering their faces and armed with what turned out to be an imitation pistol, ordered the victim into a truck. The victim was able to call for help and a sheriff's deputy intervened. The boy was not hurt.
The sheriff's department said the suspects told investigators they had plans to torture, sexually assault and kill the victim.
Murray, Oddo and Cadena were placed into custody at Yuba County Juvenile Hall. They're due to appear in court April 16 on kidnapping and conspiracy charges.
